Rescue Pyrs Available for Adoption

Kipp-Ice

Kipp was the name given to him by the Rescue who took him in. His original name was Ice. He does respond to the name Ice. He was an owner turn-in to Animal Control in the Lambertville area of NJ. Animal Alliance NJ took him and the female in, had them spayed and neutered and updated most of the shots. Ice still needs to get a distemper shot. He also has kennel cough. I'll be picking up medication for him tomorrow. Today is Easter so the Vet is certainly not open.

Ice still needs to be heartworm tested but won't be able to have this or his distemper vaccination done until he is healthy. He's not feeling very well right now but he does seem to be a very well behaved and sweet dog. He LOVES to be brushed. I suspect he was shaved as the coat on his back and sides is very short and matted. It does brush out easily however. Both he and Snow came to us just yesterday, 3/22/08 so we will need to keep them for a bit to see their true temperament but I expect they will remain sweet and loving. Once the kennel cough is cleared up I'll get them over to see the Vet and have them checked out and tested for heartworm. Keeping my fingers crossed that they are both HW negative. We have very little info on these dogs and if anyone has more information on them please email me and let me know.

Kiiva-Snow

Kiiva is the name given to her by the Rescue that took her in from animal control. Snow was the name given to her by her owners. She was an owner turn in along with Ice to Animal Control in the Lambertville NJ area. Animal Alliance NJ took her in and had her spayed and updated her vaccinations. She still needs to be tested for heartworm.

Snow too has kennel cough. I'll be picking up medicine for her tomorrow and as soon as she is healthy she will be tested for heartworm. She is very sweet and loves to play, especially with Ice. Although they certainly like each other a lot the two of them are not so bonded that they cannot be placed separately. It would be nice to keep them together, but if that's not to be they will do just fine separately. I'll update photos as I can. We have very little info on these dogs and if anyone has more information on them please email me and let me know.

Naomi

Naomi is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She was an owner turn in due to food aggression problems with other dogs. This is what the boarding kennel wrote about her "Naomi is a very sweet girl who was born September, 2006. She was living on a farm but is looking for a change in life style. She is about 26 inches tall and weighs 80 lbs. She was good with farm animals bigger then her but not those smaller then her. She had a problem with her older border collie sister so she would do better as an only dog. She is crate trained, house broke, spayed, current on vaccinations, 4DX tested negative, and will be microchipped prior to placement."

Barton

Barton was picked up as a stray then turned over to us by a Shelter. He's a sweet, loving boy that loves life. He's about a year or so old. He's neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He's very friendly with other dogs. Too friendly sometimes. He tends to want to hump all dogs with which he comes in contact. This may or may not change as he matures. A lot of this is due to excitement. He seems fine with cats although he will chase them if they run. Bart adores people. He'd like to become a part of your family.

Doc

Doc came to us from a Shelter. He was picked up as a stray. They thought he was about 4 years of age but I think he might be younger. Somewhere about 3 years of age. I cannot swear he is a purebred but he does have double dew claws on both hind feet. He's been a model guest. He was adopted out from the Shelter but was returned as he had accidents in the house and got into the trash can. He's had no accidents here but is crated when in the house. He has made no effort to lift his leg when he has been loose in the house. He crates well but does complain occasionally. He prefers to be outside only when he needs to potty unless you are out there with him. He has been fine with all the girls here. Even Lucy, who has a tendency to push the boys around and make them belly up to her has been kind and gentle with him. No issues with him at all. But then, he is reserved with other dogs and is careful not to get in their face. He does like to play but seems to prefer to play with people. Unfortunately I do not have much free time to play with him. The Shelter took care of updating his vaccinations and he was neutered prior to coming to them. Doc has shown no interest in my cats at all. He does seem to love attention and would like nothing better than to have someone pet him all the time. He tends to pull when on lead and could use some obedience work. Since Doc's vaccinations were done by the Shelter he has not yet visited my Vet. I guestimate his weight at about 85 to 90 lbs. and he is on the small side for a male Great Pyrenees. I'm hoping that Doc will find his forever home soon, but I will truly miss him when he goes to his new home. He's a wonderful dog.

Chance

This is Chance. Chance was an owner turn in due to divorce. What to say about poor Chance? Well, we were told he was up to date on his vaccinations. He was not! We were told he was healthy. He was not! We were told a lot of other things as well. And quite frankly, I'll be holding on to him a while to be sure that his temperament is as the owner stated. The one thing I do know that is true is that he is neutered. Chance was a strong positive for lyme disease and had an upper respiratory infection and a slight fever. He was on antibiotics and is feeling much better. He is eating well. Evidently Chance had escaped from his yard and had gotten covered in burrs so he was shaved down. I was told he was 5 years old but he won't be 5 until April 15, 2008. He has behaved fine with the girls here. He does not seem to be bothered by the other dogs when eating. Chance is now healthy and and he's a very good boy who loves attention. He's still fine with my cats. Chance weighs 98 lbs. and is a little bit overweight. He's on the small side for a male Great Pyrenees.

Kodi

Kodi is about 2 years old. We are her third home. Kodi was originally bought to guard Ducks. She evidently hurt the Ducks by playing with them. (well DUH, she was a puppy and puppies play with what's available!) She was given to someone else but she is very food aggressive with other dogs, and she started dominating the female Golden Retriever she was living with at the time. Kodi would do best as an only pet. Although she plays just fine with the male dogs here, if you are petting or grooming her and another dog comes over, she will become aggressive and chase the other dog away. She has never actually hurt the other dogs, but it would be best if she was an only pet as we do not know if she would be this way with cats. She prefers to be inside, crates well but is not comfortable walking on slippery floors. She really does not like walking on linoleum. She will probably outgrow this problem. She is a sweet, affectionate dog and quite pretty. She was loaded with whip worms which has been taken care of, and she is now on Interceptor. She is spayed and up to date on shots. The previous owner said she is good in the house, completely housebroken and good with kids. Although the kids that came along with the owner to drop her off to us were older. More the age of teenagers. Kodi truly adores people and thinks that all people coming to the house come just to see her. She does jump up a bit due to excitement when meeting new people. She is very outgoing and friendly.

Samson

The new photo of Samson was taken on 2/23/08 at an adoption day at Tractor Supply. He is wearing a Gentle Leader collar, not a muzzle. He has come a l-o-n-g way over the past couple of years.

Samson needs a special home. He was born on 9/17/04 which means he is now a bit over 3 years old. Samson will need good fencing. If he panics he will bolt and he MUST be kept in secure fencing.

Samson is afraid of people when he first meets them. Samson is at the boarding kennel and Greta has worked with him extensively. He is coming along, but still has fear issues. I'm pasting what Greta wrote about him here. "At his former owners he was used to sleeping on her bed, he loves to be groomed if you can get him to stand still long enough. If he trusts you he will be all about playing not that grooming stuff. If he is afraid he will cringe even when you try to brush him. What a wonderful dog, once he gets to know you. He loves to play but he needs to develop a trust with you before he will even show that side of his personality. He is best meeting new people out in the yard not having them approach his kennel. They also need to meet him on his level, if they walk towards him he will panic (yes we are still working on that). Yesterday he was even brave enough to let someone he never met give him a hug, the look of terror was in his eyes but when he realized there were treats involved he was more relaxed. But when the man stood up he was ready to run back into his kennel. He enjoys the company of other dogs and seems to learn from them that people are okay. He will bark at cats and other critters in the yard and people when they pull into the drive way but is learning the word "Quiet" and that when mom says that he needs to stop barking. He seems to take his clues from his new kennel neighbor Lucy. When Lucy barks, he barks and Lucy has been taught "Quiet" so he is learning that also. He loves to play with Lucy running and jumping along the kennel line wagging his whole body. He gets his toys out of his Dog Igloo where I put them when I clean the kennel, and will chase a ball but hasn't quite figured out what to do when he picks it up. Some toys he just plays with others he shreds, like the medium size basketball that only lasted a few days. He has learned that tennis balls bounce and they can be fun. He is beautiful, very white long hair with two gray spots on his back and a few gray hairs on his face. Very pretty face.He seems to enjoy kids more then adults but women are his favorite. If a kid moves too fast he is gone but he watches them and acts like he wants to play. He is pleasant to walk as long as there are no small critters (cats) he thinks he needs to chase then he forgets that you are on the end of the leash and tries to drag you along. He is afraid to go into the house but will do so if you insist. He stops and backs up before the door but if you just keep him moving he is okay. Every new experience will take time and patience till he has his confidence in the person. I did have him crated and he panics in wire crates but will settle down, once he realizes he can't escape. (Wire crate must be very strong as he will try it) When he got neutered he went willingly into the largest size Vari kennel with no problem. He has grown since then so I'm not sure if he would still fit."

Remington

If I had to use only one word to describe Remmy, that word would be "jaunty"!

Remmy is 4 to 5 years old and neutered. He did not like my cats at all when he first came here, but now he ignores them, even when passing them offlead. He's been allowed loose in the yard for quite a while now and does not seem to try to get out even when there are bunnies on the other side of the fence. Although he does bark at the "evil" bunnies. :-) The Cocker Spaniel next door is constantly let loose to run and runs to my fence. Remmy stays by the fence but does not bark at him or seem to show any aggression toward him. He was a fence jumper as a young dog and will require 6 foot fencing to be safe. His true personality is really coming out now and he loves to play with me. He is a typical Pyr in that he does not constantly ask for attention but "goes about his business". That may change in his new home. Sometimes when Pyrs become the "only dog" in their new home they bark more or become more protective as there are no other Pyrs at the home to share the job. He's been fine with all the female dogs here, although he does think Lucy is a pain in the neck. When she tries to dominate him he ignores her. He is a drooler and has cottony coat that mats so will require steady grooming. He is perfect in the crate. Remmy has lived with young children and was reportedly fine with them. Remmy would really like to have a family of his own to watch over.
